
Borderland 500: Final Instructions
Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey!
As you prepare to embark on the Borderland 500, we want to provide you with some final instructions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Before You Start:
- Check Your Equipment: Double-check that your bike is in top condition and that you have all the necessary gear, including spare tubes, tools, and clothing.
- Familiarize Yourself with the Route: Review the route maps and elevation profiles. Plan your rest stops and consider the weather forecast.
- Safety First: Wear appropriate safety gear, including a helmet (essential). Also, A Hi-Viz Garment is mandatory when riding at night. Be mindful of traffic and follow all road rules.
- Lights: Rear lights must be turned on for the entire time you are riding, front lights should be switched on as soon as visibility starts to get poor.
- Be Prepared: Consider all weather conditions, we are in the UK after all, its going to rain at some point! Also, temperatures have started to drop during the evening.
Start/finish Area: WildconTentment SY10 8BT (what 3 words) ‘bunny.noise.shunning’
- Designated Car Park: The start location is a camp site which we have access to from 9th September 2025. Parking will be clearly signed.
- WildconTentment is a picturesque wild camp site. Borderland500 have hired the site for the week so you can leave your vehicles & set up tents before you leave. As always Vehicles and belongings are left at your own risk. It is a very quiet and secluded spot! It is £30 for a pitch for as long as you like between the 9th 14th September 2025.
- We will have showers & toilets available for all riders.
- Please be respectful and put any rubbish/recycling in the bins provided.
Start Times:
- Confirm Your Start Time: Please ensure you have the correct start time logged. A member of the Borderland 500 team will be at the start area to meet you and hand over trackers 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
During the Ride:
- Pace Yourself: The Borderland 500 is a long-distance event. It is important to pace yourself and listen to your body. Take regular breaks and hydrate properly.
- Nutrition: Eat a balanced diet to maintain energy levels. Bring plenty of snacks and water.
- Checkpoints: Utilize the checkpoints along the route for rest, refreshments, and assistance. A Borderland500 flag will be at each checkpoint with a stamp to mark your Brevet cards.
- Extra Checkpoints: We have added a couple of extra checkpoints. The First being by Lake Vyrnwy the shop Dafarn Newydd store will be keeping an eye on trackers, if you are close they will do their best to stay open after 18:30 for you
On the Full pint route, we have added an extra checkpoint down in the Brecon Beacons. The Old School, School Row, Llanfrynach LD37AZ This is a private house which we are lucky enough to have access to the garden for bivvying and toilet facilities. Snacks will also be served here!! Access is through the wooden gate by the garage, please see photos:
The final checkpoint will be available from 18:30 on 12th September. This has a kitchen area with tea, coffee, and some basic supplies for you to help yourselves. Also, a space for a sleeping bag!
The final checkpoint will close at 11am on the 13th. If you are fairly near we will do our best to meet you.

After the Ride:
- Celebrate: Once you finish, take time to celebrate your accomplishment. Share your experience with others and encourage them to join us next year. Family and friends are more than welcome to join us all at the finish and stay the evening. This is meant to be fun for everyone!
- Food/Drinks: Pizzas will be available to all riders from 4PM on 13th September. If you have any dietary requirements, please let us know prior to the event. A pop up bar will be at the finish for all to enjoy.
- 1 free pizza & drink for every rider. Additional food and drinks can be purchased direct from the traders.
- Trackers: Make your way back to the finish and place your trackers in the drop boxes provided. (Any non returned trackers will be chargeable, the cost is £150)
Additional Tips:
- Enjoy the Scenery: The Borderland 500 offers breathtaking views. Take time to appreciate the beauty of the region.
- Connect with Other Riders: Meet new people and share your cycling stories.
- Take Photos: Capture those moments that you will not get again. Not just the highs, but also the lows.
